Umm… help? Maybe I should call in Dirk Gently to solve this mystery!

This reminds me of one of these wire puzzle things my mom got me from the Ontario Science Centre when I was a little kid. I think I finally opened one with a pair of pliers. (Just like how I solved the Rubik’s cube by peeling off the stickers!)
